How it works

  1. 1

    Pick a photo

Choose one from your library or take a new one. The original stays exactly as it was — every edit happens on a copy.

  2. 2

    Cover what matters

Paint with the blur or pixelate brush, or let the app detect faces and the background for you. Pinch to zoom in on the details.

  3. 3

    Export safely

Save to Photos or share straight away. Location data is removed from the exported copy by default.

Six ways to conceal

Blur brush

Drag a finger over anything you want softened. Adjustable brush size and strength, with an eraser for mistakes.

Pixelate brush

Cover details with blocks instead of a soft blur, at whatever block size reads best for the photo.

Automatic face blur

Apple’s Vision framework finds the faces and shows you what it found. Include or exclude each one with a tap.

Background blur

The main subject stays sharp while everything behind them is blurred. Invert it to blur the subject instead.

Object conceal

Paint over a licence plate, a document, a screen or a tattoo and hide it with blur, blocks or a mosaic.

Retouch

A gentle softening brush for skin and small blemishes. Deliberately subtle — no plastic-looking results.

Private because it never leaves the device

Face detection, subject masking, blurring and export all run on your iPhone’s own processor. There is no account to create, no server that receives your pictures, and no analytics watching what you edit. The app works in airplane mode.

Frequently asked questions

How do I blur a face in a photo on my iPhone?

Open the photo in Blur Photo and choose the Face tool. The app uses Apple’s Vision framework to find every face in the picture and outlines them so you can see what it found. Tap a face to include or exclude it, pick blur or pixelate, then export. If a face is missed, the brush lets you cover it by hand.

Does blurring a photo permanently hide the information?

Blur Photo writes a new image file in which the covered pixels have been replaced. The blurred area is part of the exported picture, so it cannot be peeled back to reveal the original. Your source photo is never modified, which means you keep the untouched original in your library.

Are my photos uploaded anywhere?

No. Every step runs on your iPhone: face detection, subject masking, blurring, pixelating and export. There is no account, no server and no analytics. The app works with no network connection at all.

How do I blur the background without blurring the person?

Choose the Background tool. Vision separates the main subject from everything behind them, and the blur is applied only outside that subject. You can adjust the strength, invert the mask to blur the subject instead, and refine the edges with a brush.

Does exporting remove the location from my photo?

Yes. GPS coordinates are stripped from the exported copy by default, so sharing a blurred photo does not reveal where it was taken. Premium adds a toggle if you want to keep that data.

Is Blur Photo free?

The manual blur brush, the pixelate brush and standard-quality exports are free. Premium unlocks unlimited exports, full resolution export, automatic face blur, background blur, the mosaic pixelate style and metadata controls.

Which iPhones does it work on?

Blur Photo needs iOS 17 or later. Automatic face detection and background masking use Apple’s on-device Vision framework, which is built into iOS.
